QUESTIONS ABOUT SHIPPING AND ORDERING

Do you ship to the United States?

Yes we do! We ship empty spheres worldwide! If for some reason you do not see your country listed when you go to check out, please send us a message and we will make sure to add it right away!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of several of our designs we cannot currently ship plants, (this included planted spheres and cuttings) vermicompost or wooden propagation stations outside of the European Union.

How do I place an order?

Once you find the pieces you love and have added them to your basket you can click on your basket and you proceed from there! If you live in Berlin, you can easily choose to pick up or hand-delivery for your convenience. If you live anywhere else shipping will be calculated once you add your country.

How do you calculate the shipping?

Shipping cost is set by the shipper and it is based on weight (package up to 5 kg/10kg/20kg etc.). This can sometimes cause a high shipping cost. Packages up to 5 kg can fit up to 2 medium spheres.

We do everything we can to keep these costs as low as possible while still ensuring your lovely items arrive to you safe and sound.

How do you pack the spheres for safe shipping?

Despite a lot of packaging materials to secure as safe delivery as possible, we work very hard to source as close to 100% second-hand materials as possible. This means that many of the items have been destined for the trash but we have gone out of our way to give these long-term items a bit more long-term use. Whether it's reusing materials that come through our doors or collecting them from local companies in Berlin, you can rest assured that much, if not all of these materials have had a second life. We would also like to encourage you to reuse the packing materials next time you will be shipping a package to your friend or family :)

Can I order a sphere with a plant if I live outside the European Union?

Unfortunately no. We cannot ship plants, wooden propagation stations, or vermicompost to any country outside the EU due to specific regulations.

How can I tell if my concrete sphere needs watering?

One of the easiest tricks to tell if your plant needs watering is to hide a toothpick or small wooden skewer in the soil. I tend to leave it there hidden somewhere out of sight. Then I simply pull the stick out when I am checking on the plant and if the stick looks to be wet, I know there is still adequate moisture. If the stick appears to be drying out, I know it is time to water again. I also recommend getting a simple moisture meter as this will help take a lot of the guesswork out of watering.

How do I water my sphere planter?

I recommend taking the sphere to the sink so that water can freely drain. I tend to water mine fairly well, saturating the soil, and then leave it to drain until it has stopped dripping for the most part before replacing it on the tray. If you are a fan of the ‘dunk method’ of watering where you dunk the plant into a bucket (or sinkful) of water. This will work just as well, and for some plants even better since moisture will absorb into the concrete and help maintain moisture for longer.

We do not recommend to water your plant on the tray, as the tray is shallow and will not hold excess water.

QUESTIONS ABOUT PLANTS GROWN IN WATER

How Often Should I Change the Water?

That depends a lot on the size of the container. The smaller the container the more often you will have to change it, as the water runs out of oxygen faster. For a smaller sized container, we recommend once a week or so. Anything over a liter could probably be changed every month. I don’t recommend changing the water too often as this can also shock the plants.

What do I do when the container gets too small?

There are several things you can do if the plant begins to outgrow its container.

The first thing you can do is transplant it to a larger container or transplant it in soil. From this plant, it should be possible to take a new cutting and replace it into the now-empty container.  If the plant has been in water for a long time I recommend planting it in sphagnum moss for at least six weeks before planting in the soil to help the roots adapt from the water to the soil.

The second thing you could do is to take the plant out of the container and trim about ½ of the roots off. Make sure you use a sterile cutting tool. This will give the plant room to grow new roots. It is advised that you allow the roots to dry just a little before putting back into the water as the open wounds can be an entry point for pathogens to enter the plant.

The Glass Container is Getting a Film on the Inside, what should I do?

For the most part, unless it gets out of hand, this is fairly harmless. The reason for removing it would be entirely aesthetic. If you would like to clean the glass simply remove the plant from the container and empty out the old water. You can use vinegar and a soft cloth to clean the inside of the glass. Make sure the glass is properly cleaned out of all vinegar as any leftover could be corrosive to the roots. Just rinse the glass clean a few times with warm water before refilling with room temperature tap water. Repeat the process as often as needed.
