IT'S EVEN BETTER

IT'S EVEN BETTER

What is this DIRTY ROOTS thing exactly?

You might ask yourself.

Well, at DIRTY ROOTS we don’t give a fuck about plant trends. We don’t think you’re a bad plant parent if you kill most (or all) of your house plants. Plants should be a source of better mental health and well-being. At DIRTY ROOTS we believe that if your plants cause you more stress than joy, you’re doing it wrong.

I started DIRTY ROOTS as a way to share my passion for plants.

I have always been fascinated by the intersection of plants and art. Inspired by penjing, bonsia, and urban decay, our sphere planters were a natural extension of that passion.

Over the years my focus has shifted toward relating my style of plant growth to the community at large. Affectionately known as the “Leave it the Fuck Alone” approach, the idea is to move slowly and observe our plants.

Many of the ‘fixes’ suggested for our plants ‘problems’ are unnecessary, wasteful, and harmful. The rushed energy we bring to tasks such as watering, repotting, and cleaning affects our plants even if only because we spill more soil, damage more leaves, and skip those harder-to-reach plants for another day.

When we slow ourselves down, become present, and work with the task at hand, we often find, there is no task to be done. The repot might not be necessary, the plant might not yet need water, and so on. Cultivating a quieter mind may not make you a better plant parent, but it will certainly help you enjoy the plants you have even more!
